These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern the use of services provided by One Magpie (“One Magpie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By booking services or using this website (www.onemagpie.co.uk), you agree to these Terms.
1. Services Provided
One Magpie provides editorial services including but not limited to:
- Beta reading
- Editorial assessments
- Line and copy editing
- Combined editing packages
- Game editing (including rulebooks, narrative scripts, subtitles, and related materials)
Services are provided based on the scope agreed upon in writing prior to commencement.
Editing does not guarantee publication, commercial success, agent representation, or specific sales outcomes.
2. Booking & Payment
Deposits
A non-refundable deposit may be required to secure a booking slot. Work will not begin until the deposit has been received.
Payment Terms
The remaining balance is due as specified in the project agreement or invoice.
Invoices must be paid within the timeframe stated (typically 7–14 days unless otherwise agreed).
Late payments may result in project delays or suspension of work.
Currency
Pricing may be listed in GBP or USD. Payment currency will be specified on the invoice.
3. Scope of Work
Each project includes only the services outlined in the written agreement.
Additional revisions, structural changes, or new material added after submission may require a new quote.
For projects that include a follow-up round, that round must be completed within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 30–60 days of delivery unless otherwise agreed).
4. Client Responsibilities
Clients agree to:
- Provide the manuscript or materials in the agreed format
- Disclose relevant information affecting the project
- Ensure they hold the legal rights to the material submitted
- Review edits and feedback within a reasonable timeframe
If significant changes are made after editing has begun, a revised timeline or fee may apply.
5. Intellectual Property
The client retains full copyright and ownership of their work at all times.
One Magpie does not claim ownership over any manuscript, game content, or related material.
We may reference completed projects for portfolio purposes unless otherwise agreed in writing.
6. Confidentiality
All materials submitted for editing are treated as confidential.
We do not share, distribute, or disclose client content to third parties unless required by law.
7. Limitation of Liability
While every effort is made to provide accurate and professional editorial services, One Magpie is not liable for:
- Publishing outcomes
- Commercial performance
- Errors introduced after delivery
- Client decisions based on editorial feedback
Our liability is limited to the amount paid for the specific service provided.
8. Cancellations & Rescheduling
If a client cancels a project after booking:
- Deposits are non-refundable.
- Work completed up to the cancellation date will be invoiced proportionally if applicable.
Rescheduling may be possible depending on availability.
9. Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control, including illness, technical failure, or other unforeseen events.
In such cases, communication will be provided and timelines adjusted as needed.
10. Website Use
All content on this website, including text, graphics, and branding, is the property of One Magpie and may not be copied, reproduced, or distributed without permission.
11. Changes to Terms
These Terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of services after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
